DeFelsko PosiTector SHD Digital Durometer is optimized to measure hardness in hard polymers, elastomers, and rubbers. Hardness measure with durometer herein is defined as a material's resistance or endurance to permanent indentation. Work like a common hardness tester, you can measures the depth on an indentation in the material created by a given force on a standardized presser foot. The probe body itself is made of hardened steel with indenter pin made of stainless steel which is highly versatile to test various hard material on 90° pressure angle. Combined with test stand, you can also have improved accuracy and ideal bench top rig for testing rubber, plastic, FRP, leather, wool fiber, soft gels and sponge rubber, felt, cotton fabric, chemical tubes container and all other soft to hard materials with fibers.
Thanks to its sturdy and detachable Positector body (you can opt Positector Advance with color screen or Basic with monochrome screen), you can simply use it for hand held mode or mounted onto a sturdy bench stand for improved accuracy and repeatability on your factory floor. Furthermore, you can also opt for interconnectivity with smartphones, as DeFelsko also offer the PosiTector Smartlink series with WIFI technology, as the alternative of Positector basic monochrome body and Positector Advance body display.
There are two models of probe to choose from with several scales of durometer which need to be considered for measuring materials of different properties. The two most common scales, using slightly different measurement systems, are the ASTM D2240 type A and type D scales. The A scale is for softer plastics, while the D scale is for harder ones. However, the ASTM D2240-00 testing standard calls for a total of 12 scales, depending on the intended use; types A, B, C, D, DO, E, M, O, OO, OOO, OOO-S, and R. Dependent on the hardness of the material along with its viscoelastic properties, the shape of the presser point, and the duration of the test, each scale results in a value between 0 and 100, with higher values indicating a harder material.
Your investment on DeFelsko's PosiTector SHD, will allows your operator to measure in compliance with ASTM D2240, D2240, ISO 868/7267/7619 and DIN 53505. The DeFelsko Shore Digital Durometer SHD Series allows for a measurement of the initial hardness, and the indentation hardness after a given period of time. The basic test requires applying the force in a consistent manner, without shock, and measuring the hardness (depth of the indentation). If a timed hardness is desired, force is applied for the required time and then read. The material under test should be a minimum of 6.4 mm (0.25 inches) thick. The pin shaped identer is particularly useful in quality testing of pneumatic marine fenders, rubbery buoy belt, leather, rubber hose, insulation damper, kevlar vest and many more. However if you are looking for a puncture tester, you might as well consider a push force gauge.
