Sylvac Bluetooth Profiles: A Comprehensive Guide
Sylvac instruments offer three distinct Bluetooth profiles to cater to various measurement scenarios. Understanding these profiles is essential for optimizing your workflow and ensuring seamless data transfer.
1. SIMPLE Profile
- Purpose: Allows multiple devices to connect to a single Sylvac instrument, but only one connection is active at a time.
- Ideal for: Shared instruments, where multiple users need to connect to the same device.
- Features:
- Prioritizes the first connected device.
- Supports connections to multiple Sylvac instruments via a Bluetooth dongle (up to 8 instruments per dongle).
2. PAIRED Profile
- Purpose: Establishes a permanent connection between a Sylvac instrument and a specific device.
- Ideal for: Fixed workstations with dedicated measurement setups.
- Features:
- Prevents accidental connections to other devices.
- Requires re-pairing to connect to a different device.
- Supports connections to multiple Sylvac instruments via a Bluetooth dongle (up to 8 instruments per dongle).
3. HID Profile
- Purpose: Enables the Sylvac instrument to function as a keyboard, allowing direct data input into various software applications.
- Ideal for: Direct data transfer to computers or software without additional configuration.
- Features:
- Requires re-pairing to connect to a different device.
- Does not require a Bluetooth dongle.
Choosing the Right Profile
1. Activate Bluetooth
- Press the "Mode" button repeatedly until "bt" appears on the display.
- Enter the menu using the "Set" button.
- Press "Set" again to select "On".
- Confirm with the "Data" button.
2. Select Profile
- Press and hold the "Mode" button for more than 2 seconds to access the advanced menu.
- Press "Mode" repeatedly until "bt CFG" appears.
- Enter the menu using the "Set" button.
- Press "Set" repeatedly to select the desired profile ("SIMPLE", "PAIRED", or "HID").
- Confirm with the "Data" button.
Connecting Sylvac Instruments to PC/Laptop via Bluetooth
Connecting your Sylvac instrument to a PC or laptop via Bluetooth involves configuring the instrument and using specialized software. This process is typically facilitated by a Sylvac Bluetooth USB dongle, which acts as a bridge between the instrument and the computer.
Steps to Connect:
1. Install Sylvac Software and Dongle
- Install the appropriate Sylvac software (e.g., Sylcom, Vmux 1) on your computer.
- Connect the Sylvac Bluetooth USB dongle to a USB port on your computer.
2. Activate Bluetooth on the Instrument
- On your Sylvac instrument, navigate to the Bluetooth settings.
- Ensure Bluetooth is turned "On".
- If the instrument has previously been paired with other devices, perform a pairing reset to clear the connection list.
3. Search for Bluetooth Devices
- In your Sylvac software, use the "BT scan" function to search for available Bluetooth devices.
- The software will display a list of detected devices.
4. Establish Connection
- Select your Sylvac instrument from the list.
- The software will attempt to establish a connection.
- Once connected, the corresponding channel in the software will turn green, indicating a successful connection.

Using the Sylvac Anywhere App

Resetting Your Sylvac Instrument
1. Full Reset
- Simultaneously press and hold the "Mode" and "Set" buttons for more than 4 seconds until "rEsEt" appears on the display.
- Release the buttons. This will restore all instrument settings to factory defaults and clear all paired devices.
2. Bluetooth Pairing Reset
- Navigate to the Bluetooth settings on your instrument.
- Select the "rEsEt" option.
- This will clear the list of paired devices without affecting other instrument settings.
